Five public special school districts and one private school serve the students in Gibson County. These schools offer college preparatory classes as well as vocational training - not to mention the numerous athletic and extracurricular opportunities available.

Additionally, a two-year community college is available in Trenton that has both day and evening classes. The Greater Gibson County area is also within a commutable distance of two other community college campuses and six four-year colleges or universities that offer both graduate and undergraduate courses.

Humboldt Higher Education Center

The Humboldt Higher Education Center of Jackson State opened in November 2007 through the cooperation of Jackson State, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee at Martin, Tennessee Technology Center-Jackson, and the City of Humboldt. The center is housed in the newly renovated, historic Main Street Elementary building, complete with gorgeous, original hardwood floors. The center is equipped with the latest in educational technology, including three distance learning classrooms, computer laboratories, a state of the art science laboratory, testing facilities, spacious classrooms, library, and learning resource areas.

The center offers general education courses that will meet requirements of additional degrees offered through Jackson State main campus as well as other universities. Being a community focused center, the center offers specialized courses in continuing education tailored to meet the needs of the community. The University of Memphis offers undergraduate courses at the center while TTC-Jackson offers an LPN, Business Systems Technology, and General Building Trades program. TTC-Jackson can be reached at 731.424.0691.

The Humboldt Center adheres to the Jackson State College mission in providing accessible learning opportunities and services to a diverse student population and community. The college enhances quality of life by offering associates degrees, certificates and enrichment courses as preparation for further higher education and for career entry or advancement.
